Accused dangerous driver in horror Woodanilling crash that killed 12-year-old girl to fight the charges

A Perth man accused of dangerous driving that caused a horror collision in Woodanilling, killing his 12-year-old passenger and injuring four others, will fight the charges.

Tarique Ehsan appeared in Narrogin Magistrates Court on Tuesday via video link from his lawyer’s office in Armadale on charges of dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm in a manner dangerous to the public.

The 48-year-old pleaded not guilty to all four charges during his appearance.

Mr Ehsan was allegedly driving dangerously when his Honda CR-V station wagon and a Mitsubishi Triton utility collided in Woodanilling, at the intersection of Great Southern Highway and Robinson Road, on September 25, 2025.

One of the Honda CR-V’s five passengers, a 12-year-old girl, died at the scene.

A second young female passenger was airlifted to Perth Children’s Hospital.

Three other occupants of the Honda were airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital with serious injuries after being freed from the vehicle.

A 32-year-old male passenger of the Honda underwent rehabilitation at Fiona Stanley Hospital after fighting for his life for six weeks in the RPH intensive care unit.

The driver of the Triton sustained minor injuries and was taken to Katanning Health Service.

Defence lawyer Andrew Levalds asked the court if his client’s matters could be transferred to Perth Magistrates Court because Mr Ehsan, from Piara Waters, has difficultly driving to the country after the fatal crash.

Magistrate Rosemarie Myers understood Mr Ehsan’s reasoning for future hearings to be in Perth, but foreshadowed that the trial would most likely take place at Albany District Court.

Mr Ehsan will next appear in Perth Magistrates Court for committal mention hearing on May 5, and a order of disclosure will be served within 10 weeks.

His bail was extended on the same conditions.
