Bodycam footage shows Utah cops evacuating sleeping families from fire

Residents at a Utah apartment complex awoke in horror in the early morning hours of June 7 as officers from the St. George Police Department told them that their homes were on fire, bodycam footage obtained by Fox News Digital shows.

Video shows a cop busting down the apartment door of a sleeping family, urgently alerting them, “Hey, you guys, your unit’s on fire, you need to get out!”

“Wait what?” the residents can be heard responding.

Another clip shows an officer physically guiding a shirtless resident through his living room into the orange-tinged open air, yelling, “Run, run!”

“Hey everybody out!” an officer can be heard shouting in the bodycam footage.

Officers communicated over radio about a man stuck in a second-floor apartment that was on fire. Footage shows the officers using a ladder to escort the resident to safety.

“There’s one more guy up there!” an officer yells.

One sleeping resident did not respond to an officer’s warning.

“Hey, building’s on fire, you gotta get out!” an officer yelled while shining a flashlight on the slumbering citizen’s face. Video then showed the resident wake up screaming as a loud bang occurred.

“You gotta go! Let’s go, let’s go!” the officer yelled as he yanked the resident out of bed.

Further video shows officers calmly evacuating two small children as the kids’ family comforts them.

“Come here buddy, I’m gonna lift you over the wall, it’s alright, okay?” an officer says.

A large explosion can be heard toward the end of the video as a mother pushes a baby in a stroller. One officer at the end of the video says a roof collapsed on top of him.

Eight officers who responded to the incident were sent to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation, but all have since been released, according to the St. George Police Department.

The fire began in one unit and spread out through a shared attic, eventually burning down or damaging 20 units in total, according to FOX 13 Salt Lake City.
