Councils kick up stink over Statewide shortage of dog poo bags

Not only is fuel and fertiliser in short supply because of the conflict in the Middle East — now councils across WA are running out of dog poo bags.

The City of Kalamunda has blamed the shortage of dog waste collection bags on “global shipping delays”.

“We’ve had a few ruff enquiries about empty dog poo bag dispensers around the City, so here’s the scoop,” it said in a social media post.

“There’s currently a shortage of dog poo bags being felt across WA (yep, it’s not just us).”

The City said a big order of around three million bags had been placed earlier this year.

The shipment had been scheduled to arrive in March, but was now unlikely to land in Fremantle for at least another three weeks.

It had been busy “chasing its tail” trying to source bags from other councils, “sniffing out” alternative suppliers and placing interim orders where possible.

“Unfortunately, there’s a wider shortage and we’ve now run out of stock,” the post said.

“Notices will be popping up on dispensers so everyone’s in the loop.”

Dog owners have been urged to bring their own waste collection bags when heading out for a walk with their pooch.
