NBA superstar LeBron James has finally made his decision, announcing he will sign with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, James had the whole world on the edge of their seat as he refused to announce his new team following his departure from the LA Lakers.
The NBA’s all-time leading scorer unveiled his choice on X, while also revealing that he was close to retiring at the tail end of last season.
“I thought I was done when the season ended . . . I was honest at that last press conference when I said I needed to look at myself and decide if I still love this game,” James said on social media.
“I still truly love this game, and I have more to give.”
Entering a record-breaking 24th season in the league, James will sign a two-year $8 million ($11.4m AUD) deal with the 76ers.
It will be the veteran’s fourth NBA team across a storied career, and the King is all in on winning a fifth title before he hangs up the crown.
“This is my last decision. I’m not going for money. I’m not going for family. What am I really playing for at this point?” he wrote on X.
“I still want to sacrifice. I still want to work. I still want to grind. I still want to compete, to win and to have a chance at the feeling of winning another championship.
“I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energise a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time.”
Just about every team across all sporting codes made their pitch to sign the 41-year-old, and it was the 76ers that won his signature.
Many had tipped a reunion with the Miami Heat or Cleveland Cavaliers for the icon.
It helps bolster an already stacked roster that features Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, V.J. Edgecombe and former Celtic Jaylen Brown.
A legend of the sport, James dragged out his decision much to the dismay of the league – with commissioner Adam Silver previously saying they had delayed the schedule release until he made his choice.
