Man arrested at Melbourne Airport and charged with woman’s murder

A man was arrested at Melbourne Airport and charged with the murder of a woman who was reported missing.

Officers said the 67-year-old was detained before he boarded an international flight on Friday afternoon.

His arrest came just hours after a 53-year-old woman was reported missing by concerned family members on Thursday.

When the Dandenong woman failed to make expected contact with her relatives, “the circumstances were deemed suspicious,” and police launched an urgent investigation.

The case took a tragic turn on Saturday afternoon when detectives made the discovery of a woman’s body near Little River Rd and the Princes Fwy, which links Melbourne to Geelong.

“The body, which is yet to be formally identified, is believed to be the missing woman,” police said in a statement.

The accused man has been charged with one count of murder and remains in custody.
