A sword-wielding man was fatally shot by police outside a Nashville sedan where a woman was reportedly being held against her will Saturday, authorities said.
The fatal officer-involved shooting unfolded on Cheshire Drive, where officers encountered a 54-year-old man outside his Hyundai sedan while he was armed with a sword, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.
Police said a woman was inside the vehicle and was reportedly being held against her will. Authorities have not released her condition.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation into the shooting, police said.
Officials have not released any further details about the confrontation, including what prompted the officer to open fire.
