NEPAL SEEKS FINANCIAL AID
Nepal does not require foreign search and rescue teams, as its own security agencies are able to handle the operation, Nepali news publication The Kathmandu Post reported.
The government’s decision was based on its experience during the 2015 Nepal earthquake, when an influx of foreign search and rescue teams caused significant coordination and management issues, the report said.
Instead, the government wants financial assistance to be channelled through a one-door mechanism via the Prime Minister Relief Fund. It plans to seek additional financial aid and other support during the reconstruction phase.
According to The Kathmandu Post, the United States, the United Kingdom and the World Bank have already announced financial support, while South Korea has pledged US$1 million in humanitarian assistance through international organisations.
