Rockingham MP Magenta Marshall announces second pregnancy two years after welcoming baby Bowie

Rockingham MP Magenta Marshall has announced she’s going to be a mum again.

The member for Rockingham shared the news on social media on the weekend.

This is Ms Marshall’s second child after she welcomed baby Bowie in 2024.

“Jake and I are delighted to share that our family will be growing in October. Bowie is very excited for her promotion to big sister,” Ms Marshall shared on Facebook alongside a photo of the happy couple and their daughter.

“Having grown up in Cooloongup and now raising our family in Waikiki, we couldn’t imagine a better place to raise our growing family.”

Bowie was WA’s first baby born to a sitting Lower House MP and Ms Marshall returned to work just six weeks after welcoming her daughter.

Ms Marshall’s child bearing status created political controversy even before she became a mother or politican.

During the 2023 Rockingham by-election in which Ms Marshall was elected, her Liberal opponent Peter Hudson questioned her suitability to enter Parliament given her age.

It was later revealed the timing of his comments was especially unfortunate as they came after Ms Marshall had experienced a miscarriage.

In a Facebook message sent to a constituent, Mr Hudson, who is a Rockingham councillor encouraged them to ask Ms Marshall whether she intended to quit politics to have a child.

“I notice that Magenta keeps spruiking that she wants to start a family in the electorate soon,” Mr Hudson wrote.

“This question can’t come from me but I think it’s an important one to ask, if she does get elected and falls pregnant, will she resign the seat?”

Ms Marshall did not resign after giving birth, and instead joined a growing list of mothers in parliament.

Her husband Jake took paternity leave from his teaching job to care for Bowie after she returned to Parliament.

Some of her parliamentary colleagues have welcomed her latest family news with Secret Harbour MP Paul Papalia writing “Congrats guys.”

Dawesville MP Lisa Munday added: “A huge congratulations to you and Jake.”

Ms Marshall did not share a due date for her second baby in her announcement.
