STM Loves: WFAC, Karrinyup Spring Summer campaign, Philippa Nikulinsky and Sum Yung Guys at Crown

In exciting foodie news, acclaimed chef (and MasterChef favourite) Matt Sinclair is bringing Sum Yung Guys to Crown for a limited six-week residency. The popular Sunshine Coast institution will be taking over the Bistro Guillaume space at Crown Metropol from September 17 to October 24, with fan-favourite dishes on offer including: prawn toast with gochu mayo, hiramasa kingfish and Southern Thai yellow curry. It will be open for lunch and dinner, Tuesday to Saturday and bookings are essential.

WFAC

Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre has opened a new contemporary exhibition titled In Our Hands, We Hold. It features commissions by artists including Sharyn Egan, Mabel Juli, Lorraine Connelly-Northey, Brett Nannup, Beverly Thomson and Katie West. Co-curated by Noongar artist Zali Morgan and Abigail Moncrieff, it explores the concept of weaving stories and connection across generations. Incorporating chic resort wear and swimwear, layered with statement accessories, Karrinyup’s spring-summer campaign unveiled tomorrow is all about embracing the most vibrant version of yourself. New Mood was shot by Hannah Scott-Stevenson and styled by Emma Kalfus, and launches alongside a massive season of growth for the centre as it welcomes new stores Kikiva, Salomon and The Memo.

Philippa Nikulinsky

Described as a book for those who look closely at the world around them, local artist Philippa Nikulinsky is releasing For The Seeker Who Walks. To celebrate its release, she will be joined by its co-author and her daughter-in-law Angela Nikulinsky, and Adrian Fini for a night of conversation exploring the artist’s career and the creative process behind the book. The launch takes place at COMO The Treasury on September 10, with tickets priced at $35 including a drink on arrival. See Humanitix.

Annual Exhibition

The Wanneroo Joondalup Art Society is hosting its annual art exhibition this month at the Joondalup Contemporary Art Gallery from September 10 to 13. Artworks from the society’s talented 125 members will be on display and for sale, including this delightful piece titled Morning Ritual by Roslyn Blackburn.
