A TikTok influencer who publicly accused her estranged husband of being a paedophile in a viral video was gunned down by him just days later in a chilling murder-suicide.
Sara Gilson was shot dead inside her Oklahoma home on Thursday after her estranged husband Jeremiah “Shawn” Duffey allegedly forced his way inside before turning the gun on himself.
The horrific killings came less than two weeks after Ms Gilson joined TikTok’s viral “Netflix documentary” trend to expose allegations against the 48-year-old youth basketball coach.
“Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon-to-be ex husband who I just found out is a pedophile,” the 43-year-old wrote over the clip.
She added: “I wish I was joking.”
The video exploded online, attracting more than six million views.
Mr Duffey had not been charged with any offence before his death.
But court documents filed weeks earlier claimed that he had kissed and inappropriately touched a 15-year-old girl on the basketball team that he coached after another coach reportedly caught him in the act.
The girl’s mother also alleged that her daughter had received messages from Mr Duffey, was invited to his hotel room during a tournament and was offered money to keep quiet.
Police confirmed a report had been made but it remains unclear whether Mr Duffey was under active investigation before the shooting.
The allegations came as Ms Gilson sought an emergency protection order against her estranged husband on June 10, claiming he had access to a gun, threatened to take his own life then disappeared.
A judge ordered Mr Duffey to leave the family home and stay at least 100 yards away from Ms Gilson, with the protection order later extended until late August.
It was not the first time she had sought court protection.
Court records show Ms Gilson filed two previous protection orders in 2021 after their marriage broke down, but those applications were later dismissed when she did not appear in court.
In the days after her viral TikTok, Ms Gilson shared two hauntingly prophetic posts.
One showed her smiling aboard a boat with a friend alongside the caption: “Everyone talks about romantic love, but no one talks about how female friendships literally save your life.”
Her final TikTok featured her relaxing on a yacht with the words: “May whatever the f*** that was never find me again.”
Days later, police allege that Mr Duffey broke into her home and shot her before taking his own life.
Mr Duffey’s own TikTok account featured a series of crude and often cryptic posts about relationships, including one claiming: “Apparently every girl’s ex was toxic, controlling and manipulative.”
A GoFundMe established for Ms Gilson’s two children described her death as “unimaginable” and remembered her as a devoted mother whose children “were the centre of her world”.
“Her sudden and heartbreaking loss has left an entire community grieving, but the greatest loss is felt by her two precious children, who must now face life without their loving mother,” it said.
