KC Navarro narrowly missed out on winning the Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) X Division Championship at Slammiversary, but the moment was special nonetheless.
Navarro competed against his mentor, Amazing Red, in the match. Red got the better of him in one of the better sequences of the match.
Navarro also talked about battling his fear of heights as he tried to make his way up the pillar to climb on the rope and get the title.

“So, this Ultimate X was a lot more special than the first one I was in at Rebellion last year. See, me, I’m not a big fan of heights. So, it actually takes me a while to climb that thing, and I have to see what I’m gonna do,” he told Fox News Digital.
“But this year was very special to me because Amazing Red was in it. A lot of people don’t know, but it was set on commentary, Amazing Red was a big mentor for me for my entire career. Somebody I looked up to. I mean, obviously me and him, same stature, you know, he did amazing things, no pun intended, amazing things in the X Division, former X Division champion. And just to be a part of his first match back, it was very special for me.
“I really was grateful that me and him got to have a moment in the ring as well. I know it was very special for him as well. Hope he comes back. That’ll be awesome. I think it’s awesome, cool to see him back. But it was very special for me. You know, Slammiversary last year, I walked in with a torn ACL, and I risked my career being in that ladder match against The Hardys, The Nemeths and The Rascalz.
“This year, I came in with a brand-new knee in the Ultimate X at a match that’s pretty dangerous for me to be in. If I would have fell the wrong way, I could have blew my knee out. So, I took a chance. But for me to get an opportunity this soon to go for a championship like the X Division title and being in the ring with a guy like Amazing Red, my boy Leon Slater, Fabian Aichner, Mr. Elegance, Frankie Kazarian, etc. It was a very stacked match to be in. I was very grateful to be a part of it.”

Navarro added that battling his fear of heights is just a part of the job.
“Yeah, I’m not a fan of heights, and it might be just from the injury, right? Like, I just might have been thinking too much, like, ‘Oh man, what if I get hurt.’ But, I mean, it’s just me man,” he said. “I just keep God first. I count on the adrenaline to get me through, which it does because once that bell rings, got no choice. Got to go for that belt.
“Once that bell rings and the lights are on, I’m all good. But it’s just having a strong mentality of just knowing that this is what I’m meant to do, and I can’t think negative. I got to go out there positive and know that I’m going to go in healthy, walk out healthy and maybe walk out a champion as well.”
