A 46-year-old man has died after collapsing during a practice run at a mountain biking event in Burekup on Saturday.
Australian Police are investigating the incident, which occurred at the WA Gravity Enduro series event at Evedon Lakeside Retreat on Saturday. Police said they received a report about 2pm on Saturday that a competitor had collapsed during a practice run and become unresponsive.
First aid was provided by St John WA Volunteers and paramedics, however the man could not be revived. His death is not being treated as suspicious, and police are preparing a report for the coroner. The incident prompted organisers to cancel the third round of the WA Gravity Enduro series, which had been due to continue on Sunday. In a statement posted to Facebook on Sunday morning, organisers said the decision had been made out of respect for the rider’s family, and the wider mountain biking community. “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a fellow rider yesterday,” the post read. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, loved ones, and the entire mountain biking community during this incredibly difficult time. “His loss is deeply felt by us all. He was a cherished husband, father, friend, and a highly valued member of our mountain bike community.”
