Luckless West Coast defender Harry Edwards has been ruled out for the remainder of his first AFL game back from a series of concussions after suffering a gruesome injury.
Early in the first quarter of the Eagles’ clash against Melbourne on Sunday, the 200cm key back copped an accidental errant arm from teammate Elliot Yeo, which split his head open.
Edwards — who promptly took off the helmet he has adopted after a pair of concussions earlier in this season — was taken from the field with the accompaniment of a trainer as blood streamed from the gash on his face.
After leaving the playing surface, he went directly down the race to West Coast’s rooms.
The Eagles confirmed to The West Australian he had undergone a SCAT test from the club’s doctor and would not return to the field, but did not confirm if he had suffered another concussion.
Edwards spent more than a month on the sidelines after suffering a concussion in West Coast’s win over North Melbourne in round two, which was his second inside a three-week span.
The 25-year-old had earlier been sidelined by a knock in the Eagles’ pre-season clash with Port Adelaide.
After getting through a WAFL game on limited minutes last weekend, he was called back into the senior side for their game against the Demons in Melbourne.
Edwards has played 57 AFL games across seven seasons with West Coast, including 16 last year.
