A siege at a rural Queensland property has ended in tragedy after a man and woman were found dead.
Several streets in Charleville, about 700 kilometres west of Brisbane, were closed on Wednesday night after police were called to a property over reports of a serious assault around 6pm.
Residents in a three-street block were forced to retreat into their homes for nearly eight hours as specialist police surrounded the area.
The emergency public safety declaration was revoked just before 2am on Thursday..
When they entered the property on King Street, police located the bodies of a 45-year-old man and 23-year-old woman.
The deaths are a suspected murder-suicide.
The relationship between the pair of adults has not yet been revealed, nor have their identities.
Police could not confirm whether the man was armed.
It is understood a toddler was also removed from the property and taken to hospital with a minor leg injury.
No one else was injured during the incident.
A crime scene has been established and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
Police are expected to reveal more information around 11am on Thursday.
